Meet Councilmember Pierette Parker

I am a mother.
I am a business owner.
I am a homeowner.

I am deeply invested in DeSoto, not just as your Council Member, but as a neighbor who shares in the hopes, concerns, and future of this community.

I believe in a DeSoto where neighborhoods are safe and well maintained, where government operates with transparency and accountability, and where every resident has a meaningful voice in shaping our city’s future.

As a long time resident with more than 20 years of community involvement, it is an honor to serve as your Council Member for Place 2. Since being elected in 2023, I have worked diligently to confront challenges head on, strengthen local policies, and bring greater responsiveness to city government.

My leadership is rooted in action and focused on results.

What I’ve Been Working On

Strengthening Rental Registration

Improving Oversight of Absentee Landlords

Strengthening Rental Registration

 Helping to do the following:

  • Develop policies to optimize DeSoto’s rental registration program, ensuring properties meet safety and health standards.
  • This work is important because property owners should be required to register and maintain accurate records.
  • Hold property owners accountable for proper upkeep to protect neighborhoods and property values.
  • Create safer living environments for families.

Addressing Resident Concerns

Improving Oversight of Absentee Landlords

Strengthening Rental Registration

 Helping to:

  • Strengthen reporting of public safety issues and neighborhood concerns.
  • Build trust through accessible communication and responsive complaint handling.
  • Strengthen collaboration between residents, law enforcement, and neighborhood programs.
  • Support initiatives like Apartment GOLD and code enforcement to improve quality of life.

Improving Oversight of Absentee Landlords

Improving Oversight of Absentee Landlords

Improving Oversight of Absentee Landlords

 Working to:

  • Develop policies focused on addressing absentee landlord issues to reduce property neglect.
  • Strengthen enforcement of compliance with local regulations and ordinances.
  • Protect neighborhoods by preserving property values and maintaining community aesthetics.
  • Continue ongoing efforts to enhance and refine these initiatives.

Modernizing the Permitting Process

Enhancing Councilmember Orientation

Improving Oversight of Absentee Landlords

 Working to:

  • Create polices that streamline permitting processes to reduce delays.
  • Provide clear guidelines, timelines, and digital tools for applicants.
  • Improve communication, support, and resource allocation.
  • Ensure consistent regulation enforcement across all projects.

Enhancing Councilmember Orientation

Enhancing Councilmember Orientation

Enhancing Councilmember Orientation

 Working to help:

  • Improve new councilmember orientation for effective leadership.
  • Clarify roles, responsibilities, and ethical obligations.
  • Provide education on government structure, key policies, and procedures.
  • Ensure access to resources and tools for informed decision-making.
  • Support ongoing learning as priorities and challenges evolve.

Strengthening Community Pride

Community pride fuels progress.

My first independent initiative, Bizness Buzz, was created to encourage local businesses to maintain clean and inviting storefronts that reflect the pride and spirit of DeSoto. This initiative has been a success and will continue to thrive as part of my ongoing commitment to our community.

This year, I am excited to launch a Volunteer Week initiative aimed at strengthening camaraderie among our City Council, School Board, and Boards and Commissions. This initiative will foster teamwork while honoring and celebrating those who dedicate their time to serving our community. The highlight of the week will be the Battle Royale, which will take place during Volunteer Week.

Save the Date, tentatively dated April 25.

The Work Continues

Progress is ongoing and I remain committed to advancing discussions and improvements related to:

Apartment GOLD enhancements
Agricultural land policy updates
Agenda transparency
Judicial Oversight and advisory considerations
Candidate verification processes
Job posting transparency
Solicitation ordinance review
Council committee engagement

Leadership requires persistence, accountability, and follow-through.
